Plastic Booth is an experimental project intended to combine environmental issue-learning and community service-learning. It first reflects on the exceeding waste of plastics, of which the consequences would last hundreds of years, harming the planets as well as the living creatures. Our team worked to raise awareness of this issue during the “Trash or Treasure” exhibition, which laid the foundation to figure out a solution to plastic waste while serving our community members, the Sproutworks staff.
Having the material and the reason behind in settlement, Plastic Booth attempts to ease the situation where Sproutworks staff have little proper rest during their long working hours. Lacking a private rest space for themselves brings additional inconvenience. Throughout interviews and prototypes, our team worked to identify the problem and create products for improvement, namely a divider screen and an original design for DIY crafting workshops. The purpose is to transform a corner of the B1 cafeteria into space where Sproutworks staff can find it more comfortable to take a break from repeated work.
Taking a step further, Plastic Booth also functions as a living exhibition showing various ways of remaking plastics. It’s open to everyone at the campus, raising awareness of both plastic recycling and supporting our community. People are welcome to take a look at sophisticated products made of plastic and read our story of serving community members, within this space created for care and kindness.
